Challenges in blended learning and the possible solutions

With the advancement in technology and innovations today, there's been a drastic change in the way corporate organisations deliver their training.
Challenges In Blended Learning And The Possible Solutions

With blended learning, instructors can deliver a personalized learning experience for their learners. Now, employees/learners can have a feel of both traditional offline training and online training.

Besides that, a blended learning approach can help instructors to cater to all learning styles using different techniques and mediums. There are many notable benefits of using a blended learning approach for your online training.

So, there’s a need for organizations to start using it to deliver the effectiveness of training. However, creating a blended learning course can be challenging.

That’s because there are several challenges in blended learning that instructors face regularly. In this article, we’ll be exploring the different challenges in blended learning and the possible solutions to each.

5 often faced challenges in blended learning and their possible solutions

Making sure learners become successful using new technology

As learning technologies evolve, access to them becomes increasing, such that we are tempted to use them all for our training solution.

While these technologies can feature in our training courses to convey learning solutions, they might not be helpful for learners to succeed using it.

One of the challenges that we need to combat to deliver useful blended learning is avoiding too much of these new technologies. That’s because new technologies might come with some glitches, and can make training too flashy to be taken seriously by learners.

Also, with new technologies, learners might face many technical difficulties during the training. If these technical issues are unable to get fixed, it might lead to a decrease in the course completion rate.

So, to ensure that your blended learning process is free of this challenge, use the simple available technology. And if at all you must use the new technologies, ensure that there is technical support readily on the ground, for your learning platform.

Using technology because it’s available

Just because you have every technology at your disposal doesn’t make them right for your training. Most organizations often make the mistake of using new technologies to redesign their blended training because they are eager to achieve higher ROI.

However, they forget that it’s essential to understand the technology well before using it for their programs. Redesigning your training to meet up with a blended learning approach is okay, however, you can start with the technology that you understand.

Upon achieving success, you can then build upon success and deliver better training.

Having a traditional mindset

With some learners having a general mindset that they can do better in a traditional classroom setup, it becomes challenging for instructors to deliver blended learning.

Learners feel they understand the nature of the classroom better, and they can measure their efforts and behavior there to acquire knowledge.

So, to minimize this challenge, L&D professionals, facilitators, and SMEs need to ensure that their participants get introduced to the overall learning process.

That should include giving them clues on how to make use of technology and other requirements. By so doing, learners can get to change their mindsets about the traditional classroom.

Also, facilitators must be readily available to give learners 24/7 support during and after training.

Inability to manage and assess your learner’s progress

One of the essential and challenging aspects of delivering blended learning is tracking learners’ progress. Having a deep understanding of what learners have completed after completion of a specific course is vital.

To achieve success, you need to track the classroom as well as the self-paced component of your blended learning. Also, you need to assess your learners regularly to know if all learning requirements are met.

You can always track their results to determine if you need to improve more on your training course.

Technology is expensive

Most technologies are indeed expensive, and as such, can become challenging for instructors and learners with a low budget to keep up with blended learning.

That’s because each participant needs to have functioning technology devices to access training. However, we are in the digital age, and mostly all learners are using smartphones.

Blended learning has many benefits that an organization can enjoy, including achieving a boost in training ROI. If you can overcome the challenges above, you can get to deliver a better learning experience for your employees.
