How to make eLearning measurement and tracking easy

When you conduct an e-learning training for your worker, you expect them to gain enhanced skills, improve retention rate, increase their performance, and increased productivity.
How to make eLearning measurement and tracking easy

In this article, we will be discussing how you make effective eLearning measurement and tracking. This will help you to know if the training is improving your employee’s performance and your company’s growth.

However, the amount of time, energy, and resources invested in online course development does not guarantee effective training. To know how effective your training program is, you must ensure you measure and track your eLearning training program.

Easy way to eLearning measurement and tracking

1.     Observe on-the-job skill application of newly acquired knowledge

Every organization has reasons for training their workers. One of the bases of measurement of the eLearning training program is by tracking the on-the-job skill application of newly acquired knowledge.

To know employees’ level of improvement, observe and track how the employees are applying the skills and knowledge acquired in their job duties.

To effectively evaluate this, you must track initial workers’ skills and compare them to their skill performance after the training. If there is an improvement in worker’s knowledge, skills, and behaviors, it means the training is on point.

However, if workers show no significant change in their skills and behaviors over a period of time, you may consider reviewing the training course content for improvement.

2.     Use scenarios and simulations

Tracking worker’s performance may be daunting and costly especially for new employees.

If you don’t have enough resources and time to track the effectiveness of the training course by measuring real-life experience, Simulations and scenarios are good options.

All you need to do is to develop a scenario-based test to assess the worker’s understanding of the course. Instead of sending trainees directly to the field to perform job duties, assess them by using simulation and scenario-based exams.

This could also be helpful if you are trying not to compromise your level of customer service. However, when using simulations,  track individual score, behavior, and response during each session of the training test.

3.     Performance goals

One secret to successful eLearning training is knowing what you want to achieve before the start of the program.

Setting individual performance goals and comparing it to employees’ performance after the training will help you with effective measurement of the eLearning training program.

To evaluate the initial performance of workers, you must thoroughly analyze individual knowledge prior to the training program. What they already know and what you want them to improve during and after the training program.

It is also important for the course developer to design the training course with the employer’s performance goals in mind.

4.     Use assessments to gauge employees’ knowledge and skills

Course training assessments like quizzes, tests, and exams can help you to determine how beneficial your training program is to your employees.

It will give you insight into how your employees are able to understand and retain the course contents.

For example, if the majority of employees are passing the assessment, it shows that they understand and are able to retain the course contents.

Furthermore, Assessment can be a way to indirectly ask your audience about how they feel about the training course.

By tracking employees’ assessment in the course, you would have gathered useful information for effective eLearning measurement.

5.     Direct feedback from employees

One easy way to measure eLearning effectiveness is to get direct feedback from your learners. Ask them directly or indirectly about how they feel about each course module and the general course content.

Moreover, you can incorporate feedback like polls, questionnaires, ratings, and comments into each course module to get user judgment of the course.

Moreso, Surveys and one-to-one interviews with respect to the eLearning course can also be used to develop honest feedback from your employees.

6.     Learning analytics

Learning analytics data can be used to track employee’s performance in the course. Many learning management systems (LMS) come with built-in learning analytics which can be useful for tracking your eLearning program.

Data generated from learning analytics can give enough information useful for evaluating your eLearning training course.

The reaction of employees to course content, the time spent on course modules, how often they are logging in and out of the course, and their completion rate are some of the data that can be generated when using the learning analytics.

7.     Calculate ROI

One important way to measure the effectiveness of your eLearning training program is by calculating the ROI.

Calculating the return on investment of your eLearning training program will help you know if it worths your investment.

In order to calculate your ROI, you need to measure the monetary cost associated with the development of the training program and the benefits of the training program.

To calculate your ROI, you can consider using this formula.

ROI  of training =

(Net program benefit ÷ Program cost) × 100%.
